The story about the dog Bia

Bia von Fürstenfeldt was the doberman pinscher who gave name to the Bia Bed. Bengt Asklöf who in the late 60´s was working in the furniture business bought the dog Bia. The only alternative for a bed at that time was a steel constructed bed that was not comfortable. Bengt saw that Bia wanted to lie high up with her head and that the steel pipes where uncomfortable for her, so he created a brand new model, a soft bed with ergonomic edges for her head to rest on.

Bia von Fürstenfeldt loved her bed. When she had to spend a couple of nights at the veterinary station Bengt was told to bring something that belonged to her, so she would feel safe. Bengt brought the bed and the veterinary encouraged Bengt to start a production of the bed. The Bia Bed was born.

The rumour spread quickly about Bias good night sleep and the demand grew. Bengt Asklöf started an industrial manufacturing of the bed in 1969 and the company still runs in the family, third generation, in Valdemarsvik, Sweden.

Bed care

Bia is a dog bed that is easy to take care of. It normally lasts a dog’s lifetime and comes with a two year warranty on material defects. Bia Bed is easy to handle and keep clean.

Bia Original

The Bia Originals and our other products with artificial leather should only be wiped with a mild soap solution. Never use strong cleaning products, as the plasticizer in the artificial leather then can dry out.

If the bed happens to be damaged, there is replacement cover in artificial leather to purchase so that you do not need to buy a new bed.

Pilé cover

The pilé cover can be washed at 40 degrees and tumble dried at a low temperature to get the fibers to rise again. The cover is drawn over the bed and is easily removed when the bed and/or cover is to be cleaned.

Bia Outdoor

Bia Outdoor´s cover can be washed in the machine, 40 degrees synthetic program and it will keep it´s repellent ability if it´s ironed or tumble dried with at least 80 degrees after a wash. Do not use softener.

Bia Royal

The cover is easy to vacuum, the dog hairs go away easily. It´s also washable in 30 degrees, no tumble drying. The cover is drawn over the bed and is easily removed when the bed and/or cover is to be cleaned.

Bia Cotton

The material is easy to clean, just vacuum the cover in the bed. The cover is washable in 40 degrees and can be tumble dried. The cover is drawn over the bed and is easily removed when the bed and/or cover is to be cleaned.

How much does a dog sleep?

That a dog sleeps more than us humans is perhaps something that you have noticed. But how many hours do a dog sleep? And a more important question is, how many hours do a dog need to sleep?

The need for sleep varies. Large dogs are more in need of sleep than small. Puppies need more sleep than adult dogs.

Puppies can sleep almost all the time.

Young dogs, about six months old, sleep between 16-20 hours.

An adult dog generally sleeps 12-18 hours a day.

Sleep deficiency for dogs can lead to stress and a decreased immune system. The dog may have difficulties to concentrate and may be irritated. In other words, just like us people. A good sleep helps keep the dog healthy.

Therefore it is so important that the dog has his own place where it can feel safe and rest and sleep without being disturbed. If there is a child in the family, it’s good to  teach them this as soon as you can. Do not disturb the dog in his Bia Bed, especially when it’s sleeping.

Place your Bia Bed where the dog seems to be comfortable. Sometimes it may be good to try different positions before finding the best place where the dog relaxes the most. The dog and man do not always have the same view of what feels most secure. They would like to be with the family, their pack, so that they feel involved and can supervise the family members. Here, the built-in pillow in Bia comes well for use, the dog puts up the head on the edge that acts like a pillow and they can observe the family. When they sleep heavily, they usually curl up.
